Despite their popularity, it is still not easy to find grass-fed beef bones for sale in Chicago.
Beef bone broth is commonly recommended by Collaborative Care for fertility patients for its deeply warming and tonifying qualities (see our post on bone broth benefits), but it is not always easy for patients to reconcile with the factory-farmed, chemical- and hormone-laden beef found at most supermarkets. Grass-fed beef has many benefits including more heart-health omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and beta-carotene than regular beef, but it can be difficult to find.
You likely won’t find grass-fed beef bones at your weekly trip to Jewel or Mariano’s, at least for now, and you can’t consistently depend on Whole Foods having them. So we made phone calls to several places in the area of our office in Lakeview, and found a few nearby sources that carry grass-fed beef bones. We do recommend that you call in advance, as beef bones are not always in stock.
